After receiving over 100 expressions of interests from artists and photographers from across Yorkshire, we're delighted to be exhibiting the work of contemporary landscape painter, Tessa Houghton and York-based artist and illustrator, Nathalie Smith from Monday 5 August until Monday 4 November.
Inspiring and uplifting, both artists’ work demonstrates the beauty of the man-made and natural environment which surrounds us.
Tessa Houghton creates dreamlike ethereal landscapes that are infused with light, texture, and infinite possibilities. Inspired by nature with its inherent symbolism and contrasts, the paintings attempt to explore themes of fragility and strength, transience and endurance, death and renewal. Tessa says, “My latest paintings are strongly inspired the dramatic and beautiful landscapes of North Yorkshire and I’m pleased to be collaborating with Pairings to bring the work to a new audience.”
Fellow artist, Nathalie Smith is fascinated by the Gothic architecture of cathedrals and its influence in other buildings. Her paintings depict the play of light and shadow and seek out the delicately carved details hidden high up in arches, columns and windows. Nathalie says, "I am excited to be sharing my new collection of watercolour paintings exploring architectural details from buildings around York".
The art exhibited will showcase a mixture of oil paintings, prints and illustrations, and work on display is for sale and can be purchased directly from the artist. Tessa and Nathalie’s work will be exhibited in our bar area as well as on the artist corridor on the lower ground floor.
Everyone is welcome to come and view the art on display. We are open on Sunday to Thursday 12noon – 11pm and Friday and Saturday 11am – 12 midnight.
